Big NEWS and another Give Away

My friend and co-worker, Katie, is in labor!!! Katie is simply one of the deep down to her bones nicest, cutest, REAL people on earth. Have you ever met someone who just hearing her voice or being near her makes you feel good? Well, Katie is one of THOSE people. To know her IS to love her. Kaleb, you are one fortunate little guy. Your dad is pretty awesome, too.

Ok, the other news is that Kristen is giving away a book about how to raise truly great kids. Go check it out, leave a comment & maybe win the book!

I had to laugh when the first thing she did was grab the big blue velcro roller & stick it in her hair.

Not that you'd want to copy my style, but if you did, Lydia will be happy demonstrate all the secrets to my hair style. Blow it out with the big round brush, stick the big blue rollers in, then watch it fall in your face as humidity wins again.
Don't forget to leave a comment in the Give Away post. I'll be picking a winner tomorrow!

Give Away

One of my favorite blogs, We Are THAT family, did a review (sort of) of The Shack. Here's the link to Kristen's take on it: I read it, and there were things that made me cry, things that made me go, "Hmmmm," and lots of other things.
If you'd like MY copy, leave a comment. I'll draw for it Friday.

Moon Festival 2008

We arrived just in time to grab a Halloween Or*o and listen to the story of Chang Er. Last year she wouldn't have sat by herself OR listened to the story.

I love this dress. I THINK it's one of the 2 we purchased in Beijing at the silk factory.

The blue bucket is our FCC's version of Duck Pond. It took a lot of convincing to get her to reach in and grab one - probably because she couldn't see what she was doing.
Finally, Lydia found someone who was almost her size with whom to converse.

Zoo & Second Razorback Game of the Season

The Razorbacks are so special that they have not one but TWO stadiums. Twice a season, the Hogs come to Little Rock to play. War Memorial Stadium is in the same area as the Little Rock Zoo, and we park very near the zoo when we go to games. Yesterday was a beautiful day, and we had free admission to the zoo plus tickets to the game. Lydia really seemed to enjoy the zoo and spending time with Lulu (Lisa) and her nephew,Logan. I played the starring role of "Woman pushing an empty stoller." I must have looked like I was shopping for a baby, but couldn't find one I wanted.

It was an unusually late night for Lydia, but she was determined to stay awake. After our usual bed time rituals, she was still fussing a little. I started recapping our day, talking about the zoo, and she suddenly says, "Giraffe." I said, "Yes, we did see some giraffes, didn't we? And a zebra," to which she said "yes" and I added, "and a monkey..." She got all excited and said, "And WATER!"

I'm sure the zoo would be so proud that all their efforts at adding water effects were so appreciated.

Lydia LOVED these cutouts. She wanted to stand in each and every one of them. I can't imagine what she was thinking.

Labor Day 2008

Going down the big kid slide.

Juggling act or acting like she's juggling? I love that she chose the same colored balls.

In the big, bouncy thing with Daddy.

First Game of the Season

Lydia had a great time at the game hanging out with our friends, Keith & Lisa. While Lydia has always loved Lisa (you could tell), she was reluctant to let Lisa hold her. She's over that now, as you can see. In the second picture, Lydia is patting Keith and Lisa on their backs. Isn't that sweet?

It was really HOT. China hot - like Changsha and Guangzhou last year. When you get to eat Kettle Corn (sweet & salty popcorn cooked in an enormous kettle) and cinnamon roasted almonds, it's all worth it.
